KUBERA - Exploring the Third Dimension of Time

An Object of Desire

Some objects transcend their original purpose through the intelligence of their design. Their proportions, materials and mechanical interactions transform a simple function into a considered experience. With the Kubera Jumping Hours Series 1, Hautlence applies this philosophy to watchmaking, exploring how time can be expressed through architecture rather than convention. The result is a distinctly contemporary object in which form, mechanical complexity and tactile presence are inseparable.

The Architecture - A New Perspective

Hautlence has long challenged the conventions of rectangular watchmaking. With the Kubera, the familiar horizontal silhouette gives way to a vertically oriented composition that explores the third dimension.

The stainless-steel case is conceived as a sculptural structure, where surfaces, volumes and transitions create a continuous dialogue between light and geometry. Much like the conceptual language of a Möbius strip, its architecture invites shifting perspectives, revealing different relationships between its surfaces as the object moves.

The integrated steel bracelet extends this architectural thinking beyond the case, creating a unified form that feels as considered in the hand as it does on the wrist. Every angle offers another way to discover its construction.

The Innovation - Two Expressions of Time

Jumping hours have always been part of Hautlence's mechanical vocabulary since 2004. Rather than accepting conventional hands as the natural language of time, the brand has continuously explored alternative ways of making its passage visible.

Kubera introduces a new interpretation of this philosophy, combining an instantaneous bidirectional jumping hour with an unconventional peripheral minute indication.

The hours change in a single, decisive movement. In contrast, a turquoise cursor travels along the periphery of the dial, tracing the progression of minutes through a sophisticated mechanical system. Its navigation recalls the complexity of certain mechanical date indications, where movement must be carefully guided and positioned within a confined space.

Developed in collaboration with Agenhor, the jumping-hour and peripheral-minute module is driven by a B60 self-winding mechanical movement, featuring an anti-magnetic escapement and a power reserve exceeding 70 hours.

The challenge is not simply to display time differently, but to orchestrate two fundamentally distinct mechanical expressions: the instantaneous transition of the hour and the continuous progression of minutes.

The Experience - Geometry in Motion

The olive-green dial extends the architectural language of the case. Subtle relief and geometric planes introduce depth, recalling the fragmented perspectives of Cubism without sacrificing clarity. Against this composition, the turquoise minute cursor becomes a moving point of contrast, bringing a sense of direction to the display.

Yet Kubera's appeal extends beyond reading the time. Its vertical proportions, integrated bracelet and sculptural surfaces encourage a more physical relationship with the object. It invites the wearer to turn it, observe the changing light and discover how its mechanical indications interact with the surrounding architecture.

Here, luxury is expressed through the precision of an idea, the complexity of its execution and the pleasure of understanding how an object works.
